Levam Sonhos

The concept of the project is to capture the living memories/reflections of those Portuguese citizens who lived to experience the dictatorship of Salazar and 1974 revolution.

We think that this chapter in Portugal’s social history is not widely discussed within the country or indeed extensively documented. Given the period’s significance the project is keen to capture snapshots of what intervention music means to the generation that originally listened to it during this period and those generations that have followed and may have listened to such music as a child, in their youth and possibly continue to do so today.

Sara Escalhão Gomes

A graduate (and postgraduate) in Law from the University of Lisbon and has the added advantage of being Portuguese. Sara brings to the project a long-standing commitment to human rights and of course her own personal contacts and native language.

Rebecca Johnstone

A graduate in Spanish and Portuguese committed to promoting cultural awareness and appreciation. She came across the music of José Alfonso while studying for a year at Coimbra University, which sparked an ongoing interest in Luso-Brazilian protest music.
